Class Schedule

Thursday 8 February 2018

08/02/2018

Good evening parents and students!
Tomorrow is our big day of presentations. Students need to be dressed in full uniform (no hoodies). Those presenting please wear your academic tie.

Since the day is not of our normal routine, and we will be watching speeches all day, the spelling test has been moved to Monday.

A note from Ms. Helen, our Admissions Coordinator - As you are aware, the re-registration season is upon us and we have recently sent home packages with your child(ren). We value your loyalty and commitment to our school community and would love to continue our partnership by offering priority enrollment for our current SJA families. We kindly ask that you take a moment to review your financial statement and complete the information in the package and make any necessary changes to your place of residence, employment, email changes or any medical information that the administration should be aware of. Please be aware that in order to secure your child’s enrolment, it is imperative that you submit your re-enrollment package and fees no later than February 12, 2018 at 4:00 PM. After this date, all available grade-level spaces will be open to our families on waitlists who will then have the opportunity to secure any vacant positions.
Please bring in re-registration forms as soon as possible to ensure your child's enrollment.  Teacher requests are also taken into consideration based on the date of re-registration.

**If you have a particular teacher in mind, please do not hesitate to make a request and we will do our best to meet it.**

Math:
Today we introduced Mean, Median, and Mode as a way of interpreting information from data sets. I wanted to show this VIDEO in class but unfortunately there were some technical difficulties. Math Antics does a really good job of describing exactly what was taught in class.
We had our own little investigation into the shoe sizes of our class! First students were asked to read our their shoe size for our data set. We then found the mean (average shoe size), median (middle number) and mode (most occurred number). We found that if a shoe is found outside of the classroom and it is a size 6 or 5/7, maybe the first place to ask would be Ms.Walls.

Language:
We have been continuing with our Ticket out of Door reading comprehension questions for each chapter of Hatchet. I have encouraged students to make sure that they are really reading and understanding the events in the chapter. Doing this will help them answer the daily questions so that they don't have to do the work duirng a recess.

UOI: Human Body
Students spent lots of time working in their groups to complete their handout. All groups finished their rough copies and two even began the good copy. I have given the option of either having students do the good copy by hand (making sure it is neat) or bringing in a device (laptop) that has the ability to open google docs. I have a blank template on google docs that can be typed and altered for their system. (at least one student in every group would need to have access to google docs for this to be an option)
I am excited to have finished handouts and see the students become the teacher.

NOTES:

Due tomorrow is this form and money for Cookie Decorating!
