Happy Valentine's Day from Grade 5!
Today was a day filled with red, pink, white, friendship and of course some sweet treats to take home!
.... and some actual school work too :)
Tomorrow we are having the final day of Speech competitions as our top presenters face off with the top from The Maples Academy.
Math:
Today we had a close look at the difference between continuous data (data that can be measured on a scale: ie Temperature) and discrete data (data that can only have certain values: ie Days of the week). We also discussed that when it asks if there are any trends, that it means if we see any patterns happening in the graph.
Here is a VIDEO for students who are struggling to remember the differences.
We also looked at how to draw and interpret data. We did the first question as a class so that I could make sure students are remembering to include a scale, a title, and labels for every type of graph.
Another thing we discussed as a class is that we use different graphs for different reasons (as shown on the past two anchor charts made). A line graph is used to show a change in data over time. Whereas a bar graph can be used to compare groups of data.
There were several questions, over three pages, to be done for homework.
Language:
Our spelling test for lesson 19 is tomorrow. I had talked to several students this morning who had not yet practiced their spelling. It is important that they practice spelling every night in order to prepare for the test at the end of the week.
UOI: Human Body:
Today we began our human body stations: we had a close look at the Respiratory system !
The BODY stations were: Station A: The BODY World Wide (technology station)
- They completed an online activity (Link)
- Watched videos (Playlist)
Station B: BODY Burning Questions (Test each others knowledge)
Station C: AnyBODY comprehend
- Complete the worksheets, they used the handout made by the other group to help them answer the sheet
Station D: Move your BODY (hands-on activities)
- Students completed a lung capacity exercise by blowing air through a tube and into a container that was filled with water. Students soon realized that the air pushed the water out of the container, which then showed them how big their lung capacity was. (I was helping run this station so unfortunately I could not take pictures with my wet hands!)
We also had the chance to have reading buddies today, the students are amazing with the younger ones and it makes me so happy to see!
