Good evening parents and students!
I hope that everyone had a great long weekend! Another four day week is ahead for us! Today we had a fun egg and spoon race as our House Games.

This Friday (April 6) St.Jude's Academy is having a photo shoot in school! Students are asked to wear their full winter uniform for this day! Otherwise, it is time for our spring uniforms!!

This Thursday is also our Student-Led Conferences. Parents, if you have not done so already please make sure you use Pick-a-time to schedule your conference time. I would also like to see students return the last page of their report cards with parents comments for Thursday.

IN CLASS:

Math:
Today students looked at Similar Figures. Until this lesson students had only been looking at congruent figures (figures with the same shape and size). Any two figures are similar if their corresponding angles are equal and if the side lengths of one figure, multiplied by the same number, are equal to the corresponding side lengths of the other figure (same shape, different size).

This Friday we will be having a short quiz about transformations, congruent figures, similar figures, and line of symmetry (one question for each topic). Tomorrow we will be learning about line of symmetry. I will also send home some quick review for students that will be taken up Thursday.

Language:
We began a new literacy circle today! We are reading Shannen and the Dream for a School. Today students are to read Chapter 1 and 2. As we did for Hatchet, I will be asking comprehension questions everyday to ensure that students and reading AND comprehending what they read. I also have a feeling that many students will have extra questions about the book seeing as it involves history and culture.

UOI:Government
We continued with research about our Debate topics! Many students are beginning to build strong points to support their type of government. We are also developing the ability to think about what the opposition might say and how to defend. During our debates, I want to see that students are knowledgeable and able to communicate the positive attributes, as well as defend, their type of government.

Notes:

From Oakwood: Thank you again, to all of the students who took part in Oakwood’s ‘Silent Dance.’ They raised over $1400 for sensory items. Great job, SJA and Oakwood!!
