Dear parents and students!

First I want to say thank you to all the students who came dressed in their jerseys to help support those affected by the Humbolt Broncos bus crash that occurred last week.

For Art's Night we are asking that each student bring in a recent and childhood picture (baby, toddler, etc.). Please send this in all pictures no later than April 20th. Thank you!

Please also send in the last page of the report card with your comments and signature.

Students can also return their tree planting letter tomorrow, this will be the last possible day.

SPRING FUNDRAISER!!!!! Our annual Spring Fundraiser is fast approaching. This year our Spring Fundraiser will run from Monday, April 16 to Friday, April 20. We are hoping to raise $12,000. All of the funds raised this year will go towards improving technology for our classrooms, such as tables, TVs, 3-D printers, and reading stations. Each day that week, we will host a different activity. For $2 on Monday, students can dress like a ‘Pirate.’ On Tuesday, enjoy a bag of popcorn for $2. Wednesday is Pancake Breakfast. Order 1 pancake for $2 or 3 pancakes for $5. Gluten-free pancakes are also available! 1 gluten-free pancake for $2.50 or 3 for $6.00. On Thursday, enjoy an ice cream sundae for $5. Sundaes include two scoops of vanilla OR chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce. Add a banana or apple for $1. To wrap up the week we will be hosting a dance party for $5. Any outstanding cash and money will be accepting tomorrow morning.

For students who collect a minimum of $35, they will get to enjoy a morning or afternoon at Kidsport. Please use the pledge sheet provided and be sure to turn in on a daily basis! All pledges will be due on Thursday, April 19. Daily prizes for the most amount of money brought in are; bonus casual days, getting to sit at your teacher’s desk for a day, or shooting Mr. Foster with a Nerf gun. And let me tell you there are many Nurf gun options to choose from! School wide fundraising targets will allow students the opportunity to give Mr. Rozario a makeup lesson or water balloon their teachers. So, get out there SJA, and raise some money!!!!!

 In Class:

Math:
Today students started their math summative!  Ms. Walls and Ms. Downey are thinking about creating murals on their bulletin boards but cannot think of what to make. They want the student's help. Using their knowledge about transformations, line of symmetry and rotational symmetry, they must create a small example of what they think would be a great mural for the boards. They will then create a written component that explains exactly what they did so that the teachers could recreate it for the larger board.
We looked at two videos for examples of how to create tessellations and tiling patterns that use rotational symmetry:
The work done in class was awesome today and students did not want to stop!!  Here is a picture of a few rough copies students have begun.

Students had some tiling fun in class during an indoor recess!

Language:
Today we did our daily reading comprehension question for our novel study. Tomorrow students will once again have their literacy circle roles for weekend homework. I once again want to stress that the Word Wizard role has slightly changed and students need to read the paper to find out what they must do.
Next week we will begin our last DRA's of the year.

UOI:
Students had lots of class time to work on their Take a Stand formative. I was very impressed with the amount of dedication some students have within this project. Since I have seen great work and passion, I have informed students that if they would like, and if their letter is of high quality, we can try and mail them to the correct people and hope to receive a letter in response!!
