I cannot believe that we are only two more school days away from our trip to the Aquarium. I know I am excited!
Math:
Today in math we looked at how to round decimals to various different place values. Our first worksheet looked at rounding decimals, which had tenths and hundredths, to whole numbers. Students seemed to have a good grasp on this concept. We then expanded our knowledge to rounding decimals, that had thousandths, to the nearest whole number, tenth, and hundredth. We went through several word problems in class as students were having some problems applying their knowledge.
The questions not completed in class are for homework.
Monday January 22nd will be a tentative date for a quiz based on what we have learnt in Decimals so far.
Language:
In Language we continued with our speech topics. I was able to sit down with several students are look over the reasons and evidence that they have for their topic. I will continue to have conferences with students to ensure that they are progressing well. Students are continuously encouraged to look for research that they can bring into class to further support their reasoning.
UOI Biodiversity:
Today we looked at food chains and what happens if something was disrupt this chain. Students worked together to find out the population increases and decreases that might occur when something in a food chain is depleted. It has become apparent that humans are often the cause of why food chains are disrupted. Students had to create their own food chain and explain what human activities might disrupt their food chain and what would then be the result. Most students have this last part to complete for homework. Tomorrow we will be looking at food webs and how they connect food chains.
Notes:
Friday Aquarium Trip
This is a reminder that all students must come with a packed, disposable lunch.
